What do to When it’s Raining in Kerry

It rains a lot in Ireland, especially in Kerry where our lush countryside comes alive with 40 shades of green. When they say the Inuits have 50 words for snow, we in Ireland have our own means and methods of dealing with our unique enviornment.

We have wet rain, dry rain and everything in between.

Spoken Locally

In a typical Hiberno-English manner we have a number of expressions which may not make sense outside of this Island.

‘Tis a day for the high stool - The only dry spot is in the pub at the bar counter

‘Tis weather for ducks - (Famously waterproof) Ducks love the water and they’re the only ones who are enjoying this weather

‘Tis a grand soft day - The lord hasn’t drenched us and we should count ourselves lucky.

The sun is splitting the stones (“Tá an ghrian ag scoilteach na gcloch”) - A stone has never been split by the sun in Ireland as far as we can tell (Full disclosure; no geoglists have been contacted in relation to this assertion).

There’s great drying out there - Although it’s not sunny or warm you can certainly get a good dry on your clothes line.

T’would be a great country if only you could put a roof on it - Pretty self explanitory but famously an architect once unveiled plans to put a roof on Killarney Town Centre.

Frank McNally in The Irish Times humourously wrote about a dry spell and it’s effects on Dublin’s streets

I’m talking about the accumulated spatters, spillages, and general effluvia of everyday life. During most of the year, these are regularly removed by the municipal street washing system known as rain.

Then, every so often we get a prolonged dry spell, and the results are embarrassing. Our sins accumulate on footpaths for weeks on end until, like guilty Catholics in need of confession, we long for rain so that make a clean start again.

Rain or Shine - The Lake House Has You Covered (We hope that’s not a copywrite infringement)

We have been working tirelessly to make The Lake House, the best place to stay in Ireland.

Being surrounded by mountains, lakes and the sea in Kerry, we have the outdoors covered (not literally) but in the case of rain we wanted to create a space where you and your group can come and spend the whole day if necessary indoors The Lake House. We have boards games, karaoke, pool, Smart Tvs, High Speed Broadband, High Stools (your own bar) and enough space to avoid even your worst enemy for a few hours.

Come Book with us today.
