The Ladies’ Lounge: A Historic & Playful Retreat
Back in the 1970s, a formidable woman—the Bean an Tí (Lady of the House)—decided that just because women weren’t allowed to drink in pubs didn’t mean they couldn’t have a great night out. So, she did what any true entrepreneur would do: she built her own lounge. The Ladies’ Lounge was a social haven, a place where local women could gather, chat, and enjoy a drink while the men held court in the bar next door.
Fast forward to today, and The Ladies’ Lounge has evolved into the main dining area of The Lake House Kerry, while still holding onto its rebellious and lively spirit. Lined with traditional Irish pub memorabilia, the room is a warm and nostalgic nod to its past. It’s also stocked with board games, perfect for an after-dinner battle of wits or a friendly family feud.
But the best part? The bell and serving hatch that connects directly to the bar. If you’re feeling extra indulgent (or just too comfortable to get up), ring the bell and see if one of your friends in the bar will kindly deliver your next drink. No promises, but it's worth a shot!
Whether you’re sharing stories over dinner, playing a few rounds of cards, or simply soaking in the old-world charm, The Ladies’ Lounge is a place for good food, great company, and even better stories—just like it was always meant to be.
